Kranji War Memorial

As you would expect both of Singapore and the Commonwealth War Graves Commission, the grounds are spotless and well manicured. Location Information The Commonwealth War Graves Commission's Kranji War Cemetery is 22 kilometres north of the city of Singapore, on the north side of Singapore Island overlooking the Straits of Johore. This is a thought provoking remembrance of the sad loss of life that took place in Singapore, mostly but not exclusively during WWII and is well worth a visit. It is located just to the West of the Singapore-Johore road (Bukit Timah Expressway) on Woodlands Road, just to the south of the crossroads with Turf Club Avenue and Kranji Road. There is a short approach road from the main road. The beautiful grounds are an oasis overlooking the rapidly spreading concrete jungle of Singapore. The Cemetery is known locally as Kranji Memorial and one must be sure of the address before boarding a taxi as most taxi drivers do not know the Cemetery. There are also bus stops on the main road facing the Cemetery. The Kranji MRT (train) terminal is a short distance from the Cemetery, approximately 10 to 15 minutes away by foot. A previous visitor has advised us that a small map of the route can be obtained from the MRT ticket office. Visiting Information Kranji War Cemetery is open every day 07:00-18:30. The cemetery is constructed on a hill with the means of access being via three flights of steps, rising over four metres from the road level, which makes wheelchair access to this site impossible.

Jurong Bird Park in Singapore

Singapore means neat and structured & the Bird park is no exception. Fly in to Asia's largest bird paradise and feast your senses on over 5000 colorful birds across 400 species. Be it be the "high flyers" or the "birds and buddies" one, they are just awesome!! Kids would be the best recipients of these. The highlight of the park are the shows that they conduct. Enjoy sumptuous Asian buffet lunch in the company of talented parrots and get wild and wet at the kids-friendly bird-themed playground.

Peranakan Museum

A great museum in a beautiful old building (it used to be a Chinese school). Lots of fascinating history about the Peranakan people. Very interesting facts to explore. Having binge watched the entire series of "The Little Nyonya" right before your trip, it was amazing to experience such a well organized display of cultural artifacts and activities of daily life. Stop into the True Blue Pantry on site for a satisfying cup of red date tea!. Highly recommended for families to go and visit. Also loved the guides and walk ways they have done - very easy access.

Singapore Cloud Forest

This is such an interesting place with a high waterfall that you can walk behind on the suspended walkways. Not only was the area beautiful and filled with all kinds of interesting plants, it was also very educational about the importance of protecting the environment. The 4-5 story high waterfall is incredible, as is the walk through the site. The waterfall that greets you as you walk into the forest alone is worth the trip, but after the elevator ride to the top, the plants placed on each level as you walk down, coupled with breathtaking views of Singapore through the glass walls is well worth the time and entry fee. It was really cool to see that such a big effort is being put into green city living and tourism.

Changi Chapel and Museum

To know a little more about Singapore's historical past in a different perspective, the Changi Chapel & Museum is a visit not to be missed. This museum honors POWs who endured the Japanese occupation of Singapore in World War II. A British internee returned to the museum decades after the war to recreate the murals he’d painted on the walls of the original chapel – a moving insight into how those held prisoner found hope and comfort in any way possible. Don't blink or you will miss the little white chapel . Pay SGD$8 for a head set for the equivalent of a guided tour, and allow at least 1/2 a day. Changi Beach is another couple of kms further east if you want to visit the other sites linked to the history.
